EM Ireland - Review: "A conversation with...John Bruton"
On Monday 1 February 2010, John Bruton was welcomed by European Movement Ireland as the fourth guest in our Conversations Series. John gave a candid insight into possible future developments within the EU, shared some personal stories about life as an Ambassador for 500 million people and revealed some little known aspects of big personalities that he encountered on the world stage.
We were also joined by Diogo Pinto, General Secretary of European Movement International on his first visit to Ireland since taking office in July. Diogo threw light on the work of the broader European Movement network, the role European Movement Ireland plays in the network and what he hopes will be achieved in the future.
For European Movement Ireland the setting of the Shelbourne hotel held particular significance as it was in this same venue 56 years ago that the original Articles of Association of the Movement were signed by seven of the one hundred people who attended the first meeting. To mark this occasion a presentation was made to our seven founding members, George Colley, Denis Corboy, Declan Costello, Garret Fitzgerald, Sean Healy, Louis Smyth and Donal O’Sullivan, in recognition of their contribution in advancing Ireland’s place in Europe.
