+++ EM Germany Annual General Meeting 2010: In his speech at the 2010 general meeting, Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle called for a new culture of stability in Europe (Full text in German), President Dr. Dieter Spöri was re-elected for a third term and the composition of the board changed (Full text in German). Moreover, the dynamic growth of the EM Germany continues: the general meeting admitted 31 new member organizations, raising the total number of EM Germany members up to 201. (Full text in German) +++ The general meeting also decided on the focus areas for 2010/11, including measures regarding the strengthening of European integration in Germany, regarding European Good Governance with contributions of the interest groups and regarding co-ordination, division of labour and collaboration between institutions and civil society in the area of European political information and education. +++ Spöri: 750 Billion-Package merely buys time: The President of the Network EM Germany, Dieter Spöri, calls for a deepening of economic and monetary integration as well as clear regulation of the capital markets in order to achieve a permanent stabilization of the Euro. (Full text in German) +++

+++ Belgian Council Presidency – Calendar of the EM Germany published: When taking over the EU Council Presidency on July 1st 2010 for six months, Belgium will follow Spain as the second country to assume the Council Presidency after the Treaty of Lisbon entered into force. As usual, the Network EM Germany compiled a selection of the most important dates and events in a convenient wall calendar – condensed and with a new design in German and French. +++ EU-Analyses on Cultural and Creative Industry and on Energy Strategy: Globalization and digitalization are simultaneously challenge as well as opportunity for the European cultural and creative industries, making it essential to promote strategies for their strengthening on the EU-level. These were the key findings of the EU-Analysis on June 7th, 2010. (Full text in German) A second EU-Analysis on the EU Energy Strategy 2011-2020 took place on June 21st, 2010. +++ EU-De-Briefing Transport: Volcanic ash – in future improved European-wide co-operation necessary! With the volcanic eruptions of the last months in mind, in future there ought to be binding European-wide thresholds in air traffic in order to minimize risks, guarantee air traffic safety and avoid distortions of competition. These were the key findings of the EU-De-Briefing Transport on June 25th, 2010, in the rooms of the Network EM Germany in Berlin. (Full text in German) +++

+++ Pilot Project – EU Good Governance for Hesse: The Hessian interest groups reformed their approach towards European politics. Supported by the Hessian government and the Network EM Germany, the Hessian “European committee” decided at a meeting in Stadtallendorf to reform themselves following the model of the Network EM Germany. +++ Start of the 58th European Competition: Before summer holidays are beginning, the start of the 58th European Competition 2011 has been announced. Topics are geared to this year’s motto of the European Union, the European Year of Volunteering 2011. (Full text in German) +++

+++ EU-Meet-Up Brussels in Berlin EXTRA on June 8th in Berlin: For several years, the Network EM Germany has invited former “Brussels-people” now living in Berlin to meet regularly under the caption “Brussels in Berlin”, which has reached more than 800 former and current Brussels EU-actors since its inauguration. On the occasion of Belgium taking over the EU-Council Presidency, His Excellency the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, H.E. Mark Geleyn, the Network EM Germany and Klaus Willnow, who initiated the regular meet-ups, exclusively invite former and active Brussels EU-actors to a garden party in the Belgian Embassy. +++ Network EM Germany strengthens co-operation within the European Movement International: Within the framework of the mentoring project, deputy Secretary-General of the European Movement Italy Stefano Milia visited the Network EM Germany. Within the mentoring project, Germany and Italy form a tandem and are in dialogue regarding results and successful concepts by the national European movements. (Full text in Italian) +++

+++ Christian Philip is new President of the European Movement France. He is director of the Académie de Montpellier and is successor to Sylvie Goulard MEP +++ Stefan Mörsdorf is new executive director of the ASKO Europa-Stiftung +++ Since June 1st, Thomas Stammen is new Director for the National association of German Cooperative Banks (Bundesverband der Deutschen Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken) - BVR. He is responsible for European affairs and governmental affairs. +++ Dr. Astrid Mohn now is director of the new EU-Direktion within the Federal Ministry for Transport, Building and Urban Development. Her successor as Referatsleiterin EU-Koordinierung is Rosemarie Meyberg +++ Christoph Linden will be the new Leiter of the Fachgebiet „Kommunikation und Kundenservice“ of the Deutsche Emissionshandelsstelle (DEHSt) in the Umweltbundesamt from July 2010 on, after having been Secretary General of the Network EM Germany for over six years +++
